Most employers understand they cannot discriminate against employees on the basis of a disability. But many employers don't realize that amendments to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which became effective last year, provide broader protection for employees. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) recently filed three new cases against employers -- among the first lawsuits under the amendments. Here are the details of the cases, along with an explanation of how the ADA has been expanded to protect those with conditions such as cancer, diabetes, arthritis and HIV.
