United Way Week at LBMC
Every year, LBMC hosts a United Way week where we pull out all the stops to encourage charitable giving. In addition to distributing Pledge Cards, our in-house committee also organizes some really creative ways to raise funds.
This year the theme is LBMC E.A.T.S (Everyone Acts to Support.) We kicked it off with a Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, the 19th, and followed it up on Friday with Jeans Day, where employees had the opportunity to donate $10 to wear jeans to work on the designated day (which is a pretty big deal in a corporate casual environment.) This week is packed with fun stuff, like a bake sale featuring individual items as well as whole pies and cakes to bid on; a Cook Book tasting, featuring the recipes of talented staff cooks; and the grand finale: the LBMC Talent Competition. Meanwhile, employees are playing Penny Wars all week, pitting departments against one another in good natured competition to see who will be this year’s Champs.
It’s a fun way to raise money for a great cause: the United Way of Williamson County. The United Way’s work is focused on the building blocks for a good life: education, financial stability/independence, health, and rebuilding lives. You might have seen their slogan on commercials, billboards, or other media. It’s simple, but potent: Live United. The website explains, “Living United means being a part of the change. It takes everyone in the community working together to create a brighter future.” The United Way partners with a number of agencies that work to fulfill those building blocks for vulnerable citizens within our community.
Here at LBMC, we are trying to do our part to be the change and Live United. “Our main goal this year is to increase our employee participation in the campaign,” shared Cindy Harper, who is an LBMC Partner as well as the chair of our United Way committee. “If you think about $2 per pay period and what you could do with that (buy ½ a cup of coffee, purchase some music on iTunes, purchase snacks from the vending machine or buy 2 items from the dollar menu) compared to what United Way can do with that same $2 per pay period (provide a meal and 4 comfort kits to a family of four displaced by disaster), you begin to see the power of United Way.”
So far we are off to a great start. The blood drive was a huge success! We were able to procure 24 pints of blood, which was 100% of our goal. And we are currently at 37% of our goal of $51,775.
