Holiday Time Off Guidelines
It's the time of year again when offices will be closed for holidays and employees will be requesting time off.
Here are some important guidelines to remember:
- Although many companies choose to provide time off on nationally recognized holidays, it is not required by law
.
- Employers are required to provide reasonable accommodation for an employee's observance of a religious holiday. Allowing an employee to use a floating holiday, vacation day, or take an unpaid day could be considered a reasonable accommodation.
- Paid holiday hours do not have to count toward total work hours for the purpose of determining overtime eligibility for a particular week because the employee did not actually work during those hours.
