New LBMC Health & Wellness Program Where “Prevention is Key!”
I was recently hired by LBMC Employment Partners as the Employee Health and Productivity Manager. I am a registered nurse with 18 years of nursing experience and a passion for teaching. After working in Oncology Nursing for many years, I wanted to shift my focus to disease prevention. I then received a graduate degree in Public Health Nursing from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a focus in Occupational Health and Wellness.
I have worked with employees in a variety of occupational health settings such as heavy manufacturing, university employees and pharmaceutical sales. My roles in the past have also encompassed ergonomics, safety, workers’ compensation and disability case management. This is my first position where health and wellness is my primary focus.
I am excited that LBMC realizes that good health benefits both employers and employees. Skyrocketing healthcare costs are affecting all of us with increased premiums and higher out of pocket expenses. Since 70% of chronic diseases are preventable, there is a new shift to identify those of us who are a high risk for future health problems. There are often no signs or symptoms of high blood pressure or cholesterol until a catastrophic event occurs. It is important to reduce your risks with routine health screenings and early intervention!
I will be developing programs for our PEO clients to address at-risk health conditions such as stress, high blood pressure, obesity, physical inactivity, high cholesterol, diabetes, and tobacco use. Because each PEO client has different needs, the programs will be tailored to fit your needs.
Initially, the programs will be offered to a smaller group of “Pilot” PEO clients. Let’s get excited about our health in 2010! I look forward to working with you.
