LBMC is pleased to announce the following 2016 audit and tax department senior management promotions for the firm. Nashville (Brentwood), Chattanooga and Knoxville offices are all represented.

The following staff members have been promoted to a senior management position in the Audit department:
Courtney Bach now serves as a Senior Manager in the Audit department in the Nashville office. Courtney joined the firm in 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Accountancy degrees at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Courtney works mainly in the healthcare industry with both for-profit and not-for-profit hospitals, behavioral health providers, long-term care and hospice clients. She also works on employee benefit engagements. Courtney and her husband Jamie spend time in both Nashville and Chattanooga, where Jamie works with TVA. Courtney has served the healthcare industry much of her career and is a valued team member in that industry.
Jenny Merritt now serves as a Senior Manager to the Audit department in the Nashville office. Jenny has worked with LBMC for thirteen years and also has experience in the staffing industry. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree at Belmont University. Jenny is an integral part of our employee benefit plan practice, having supported it and the people/partners working in it over the last several years as it has grown to a nearly $3 million practice. She also participates heavily in LBMC’s campus recruiting. Jenny and her husband have two boys and live in Kingston Springs.
Janet Neighbors now serves as a Senior Manager to the Audit Department in the Chattanooga office. Janet has eleven years of public accounting experience with international accounting firm Arthur Andersen, LLC and seven years with LBMC, specializing in audits of employee benefit plans. She is a member of the team responsible for the design, training, and implementation of LBMC’s employee benefit plan audit methodology and tools. She is active in and continues to support many professional and civic organizations, including Society for Human Resource Management and Financial Executives Institute. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Management degree in Accounting from Tulane University. Janet enjoys boating, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.
Hunter Ray now serves as a Senior Manager to the Audit Department in the Nashville office. Hunter joined the firm in 2009. He earned his Master of Professional Accountancy degree and Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a Finance concentration at Murray State University. Hunter works in the middle market area where he serves clients ranging in industry from technology and family owned business to investment funds. He plays a key role in all of the teaching and training within the audit department and has influenced many of our staff’s careers in doing so. Hunter has obtained his CPA license and recently attained the Advanced Defined Contributions Plans Audit Certificate. In his free time, Hunter enjoys playing tennis, traveling, and hiking.
The following staff members have been promoted to a senior management position in the Tax department:
Ben Alexander now serves as a Senior Manager to the Tax Department in the Knoxville office. Ben has been with LBMC for sixteen years. He has diversified accounting and tax experience across a variety of industries including real estate, hospitality, physician services, trusts and estates. He is active in and continues to support many professional and civic organizations, including TSCPA, AICPA, to name a few. He currently is the Knoxville Chapter representative on the TSCPA board of directors. He earned both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting and Master of Accountancy degree at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. As a native to Knoxville, TN, he and his family enjoy the many opportunities afforded them by living so close to the Great Smoky Mountains and its surroundings. When he and his family are not in the mountains, they enjoy ski trips as well as trips to the beach.
Ben Carver now serves as a Senior Manager to the Tax Department in the Nashville office. Ben has worked with LBMC for over eight years and also has experience serving as Director of Taxes at Cogent Healthcare Inc. He earned both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting and Master of Accountancy degree at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. Ben’s hobbies include golf, exercise, and spending time with friends and family. He is originally from Lafayette, TN.
Blake Harrison now serves as a Senior Manager to the Tax Department in the Nashville office. Blake joined LBMC in 2015 with nine years of experience in tax compliance and planning for corporations, partnerships, trusts, private foundations and individuals. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a Tax Manager with Brockman, Coats, Gedelian and Company in Akron, OH. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Information Systems at Virginia Tech and grew up in Virginia. In his free time, Blake enjoys reading, running, golf and enjoying time with his wife and two sons.
Phyllis Hodge now serves as a Senior Manager to the Tax Department in the Knoxville office. Phyllis joined the firm in 1999. She has significant experience in consulting and tax compliance work within a variety of industries. She has had a crucial role in multiple transitions that have occurred in the Knoxville office during her time with LBMC. She is active in and continues to support various organizations in her community, such as the Boys & Girls Club of the Tennessee Valley, as well as serving as the committee chair of Fantasy of Trees, an annual event benefitting East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Phyllis is a native of Knoxville, TN, where she enjoys reading, crafts, and spending time with her family. She and her husband have three children and four grandchildren.
April Mitchell now serves as a Senior Manager to the Tax Department in the Knoxville office. April joined the firm in August of 2007. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree in Accounting from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN and her Master of Accountancy degree at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. She started her career with LBMC in Brentwood and transferred to the Knoxville office a few years ago. She works significantly with tax compliance and planning for high net worth families, including associated trusts, closely held businesses, and estates. She and her husband have a son and are expecting another son in July.
