Tennessee Tax Free Weekend- August 4-6, 2006
Beginning at 12:01am on Friday, August 4, and ending at midnight on Sunday, August 6, certain categories of otherwise taxable items can be purchased in the state of Tennessee exempt from both state and local sales tax. Tennessee joins many other states that offer taxpayers, and in particular parents of school children, a break in purchasing certain “back to school†related supplies, clothing, and computers. This provision was passed by the General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Phil Bredesen in 2005. While it offers taxpayers a great opportunity to save tax dollars on these types of seasonal purchases it is important to note that the tax exemption provided has exceptions and limitations. Generally the exemption from the tax only applies to items in certain categories selling for $100 or less or computers selling for $1,500 or less. There is however no limitation on the number of items bought with any sales tax during this period. It is also important to know that the law also applies to purchases made over the phone or internet. For more detailed information on the Tennessee sales tax holiday and the various exceptions and limitations you can go to the following link that the state has set up to provide this information:http://tn.gov/revenue/salestaxholiday/ If you have further questions or if we can be of service in anyway please feel free to contact any of us as indicated below. Mark Loftis, Nashville For additional information, please contact us at: Nashville Office Knoxville Office Our New Technology Offices: Memphis Office Birmingham Office This message was sent to you as a result of your previous business interactions with Lattimore Black Morgan & Cain, PC.
