Name: Dena Kozak
Title: Payroll Specialist
Been with LBMC EP: Since June 2013

Originally from Sioux City, Iowa, Dena Kozak attended Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. It was in Sioux Falls where Dena received an Associate degree in Accounting and began working for accounting firms until she married and moved back home to Iowa. A few years later, Dena headed back to college at Grace University in Omaha, Nebraska, enrolling as a double major in Human Resources Management and Organizational Leadership and Bible. She finished her degree as a single mother, also while working four different jobs. Dena says, “My goal was to prove to my kids that no matter how old you are, you can accomplish anything.” Dena has since served in several accounting career settings throughout the years, and she celebrates more than 35 years in the field in 2017.

Current Role:

Dena’s career journey eventually led her to LBMC Employment Partners in 2013, where she currently serves as a payroll specialist. Among her duties include handling payroll needs for a variety of clients. “I enjoy the variety and especially learning something new every day,” says Dena. Serving with a team of 12 other payroll specialists, Dena’s favorite part of her role is finding answers to clients’ questions, which she says keeps her work interesting.

Why LBMC EP Stands Out:

Dena believes LBMC EP has been a God-send for her. “I’ve worked at a lot of places and in many firms where you’re just stuck in a cubicle. At LBMC EP, everyone genuinely cares about each other and work-balance is encouraged,” affirms Dena. A shining example of this for Dena was during her double knee replacement. When she started walking again, the LBMC EP team gave Dena a certificate of encouragement and plaque to celebrate her recovery progress. Dena also appreciates LBMC EP’s collaborative environment. “While I was out of the office for surgery and recovery time, my work was fully taken care of, and everybody pitched in to keep things moving smoothly,” says Dena.

Beyond the office, Dena enjoys spending time with her husband of 18 years, Chris. They have two children—a son, Christopher, and daughter, Stephanie, as well as two grandsons, Levi and Lincoln. For several years, Dena and Chris loved to travel to Tennessee to see its fall foliage, and now they are proud to have called Nashville home for four and a half years. Since they work within proximity to each other, Dena and Chris enjoy carpooling. Dena also prides herself in being a list-maker, and she has a growing Nashville bucket list that she’s completing week by week. Among those bucket list items Dena has recently accomplished is walking across downtown Nashville’s pedestrian bridge, which was a big deal for her after knee surgery.
