Name: Linda Ellis
Title: Payroll Administrative Assistant
Been with LBMC EP: Since February 2012
Originally from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Linda Ellis has experienced life in several different places along her journey to becoming a Nashville resident and employee at LBMC Employment Partners. Upon her high school graduation, Linda knew that college wouldn’t be an easy option for her in that season of life. So, she set out to conquer the 9 to 5 workforce by taking on a role in the credit department of Sears, Roebuck, and Company. Linda served in that role for two and half years, gaining a variety of skills and experience, and then in a position as secretary to the Credit Department Manager before leaving.
When the opportunity presented itself to attend Welch Bible College in Nashville, Linda made the move to Music City, where she studied business for two and half years before she received what she calls her “MRS degree.” Linda worked at Sears, Roebuck, and Company in the credit department in downtown Nashville her first year of marriage. Soon after, Linda and her husband moved to St. Louis so that he could attend seminary. Linda transferred to Sears, Roebuck, and Company in St. Louis, where she served in the company’s credit central division, and after 9 years with the company, she made the decision to stay at home to raise her children. As the children grew, Linda took a job working as a church secretary for 15 years in Illinois. Later, she and her husband moved to Fort Myers, Florida, where Linda worked at an accounting firm as an administrative assistant.
Linda’s journey led her back to North Carolina for a brief season, as her mother fell ill and needed Linda’s care and attention. Linda and her husband eventually found themselves back in Nashville, where Linda was hired at LBMC Employment Partners and has served for the past six years.
In her role as Payroll Administrative Assistant, Linda is responsible for a variety of duties, including assisting the payroll department with multiple tasks, keeping records in order, assisting with payroll tax outsourcing, processing the tax department mail and assisting with reports at the end of each quarter, and helping with ACA mailings at end of the year. “As a task-oriented person, I enjoy the variety,” says Linda, who also takes care of tax audit information and provides back-up for the distribution room when needed. “Being organized is one of my strengths, which helps me love my job. I enjoy doing my part to make everyone’s job be better,” affirms Linda.
Why LBMC EP Stands Out:
Many things stand out to Linda about the wonderful work environment she experiences at LBMC EP, but at the top of the list for her is the flexibility. “One of my favorite things about working at LBMC EP is the flexibility. I work 4 days a week, which is greatly helpful for work-life balance,” says Linda. “I’m trusted to do my job, and it gives me peace knowing that my manager is confident in my abilities and knows that I will work hard to get my job done,” she adds. Linda also praises LBMC EP’s relaxing environment, where everybody gets along well. “At LBMC EP, family is important. If you can’t take care of family as needed, you can’t be your best on the job. Our leaders inspire and encourage us in our everyday journey, and that creates the best type of work atmosphere,” Linda explains.
Beyond the office, Linda has been married to her husband (and college sweetheart), Daryl, for 44 years. They have three grown children—Melissa (who lives in Nashville), Philip (who lives in St. Paul, Minnesota), and Laura (who lives in Florence, South Carolina). Linda and Daryl are also the proud grandparents of five grandchildren. Daryl has pastored three different churches, with 25 years of ministry experience. He also teaches online courses for Welch Bible College. Linda and Daryl both serve together as Life Group leaders at their church, The Donelson Fellowship. Linda is also a part of a Wednesday evening Life Group called Sew Much More. The group has sewn almost 900 items, pillowcases, children’s clothing, blankets, quilts, and more for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, nursing homes, and orphanages in places like Haiti and Ecuador. “It’s so rewarding to do something for others,” says Linda. This selfless, giving spirit is what makes her such a valuable team member at LBMC EP.
