Name: Mary Catherine Alcorn
Title: HR Manager
Been with LBMC EP: Since March of 2016
Hailing from the town of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Mary Catherine Alcorn made her way to college at Tennessee Tech University, where she majored in Human Resources. Though she didn’t develop the interest for an HR-related career until the second semester of her junior year, it was the influence of a great professor who ultimately helped Mary Catherine make the decision. After graduating from TTU in 2012, Mary Catherine accepted a role back in her hometown with Select Staffing. At first, the role was focused on compliance administration, but it evolved into Mary Catherine spearheading recruitment at the company’s Mt. Juliet location. Looking to grow and advance her career, Mary Catherine later accepted an opportunity to work as an HR Specialist at Community Health Systems, where she served six hospitals and approximately 5,000 employees with a variety of HR-related tasks, including job changes, new hires, terminations, and verifying employees’ medical licensing for compliance. It was in the working relationships Mary Catherine developed with HR directors and generalists that soon attracted her to LBMC Employment Partners. When a previous coworker came to work at LBMC EP, Mary Catherine began to learn about the company’s high standard of customer service and strong working relationships with its clients. “This is what drew me toward an HR career in the first place—working with people. LBMC EP accommodates the perfect mix of face-to-face relationships with clients and behind-the-scenes HR work. We are encouraged to get to know who we work with, and the clients truly appreciate that as well,” says Mary Catherine.
“I’m really grateful for the opportunity to serve at LBMC EP—I can’t even put it into words,” says Mary Catherine. “I’ve grown in a variety of ways, both personally and professionally,” she adds. Mary Catherine’s role as HR Manager includes the daily responsibilities of working alongside several PEO clients in various industries from healthcare to technology to manufacturing and more. Assisting these clients with anything from onboarding, FMLA, employee issues, handbooks, and benefits, Mary Catherine appreciates how every client is different with unique policies and procedures, so each day can bring new and exciting challenges. “The key to success is in knowing the client and understanding their specific needs. I love that no two days are the same,” says Mary Catherine.
Why LBMC EP Stands Out:
When it comes to what makes LBMC EP stand out as an employer, Mary Catherine says, “If you’re not challenged, you can’t grow. What I’ve experienced at other companies helps me see each day how great of a company LBMC EP truly is.” Mary Catherine also gives high regard to LBMC EP’s partners Ron Perry and Sharon Powlus, saying, “Ron and Sharon truly care about us as employees, and they want us to have a healthy work-life balance and to grow and succeed.” Mary Catherine is thankful for the close connection among LBMC EP’s HR team. She appreciates the collaborative team environment where team members can bounce ideas and advice off each other. “It’s great to be in the presence of experienced professionals who have bonded and truly enjoy each other. They’re not just coworkers, they are friends,” Mary Catherine affirms. “Our exceptional team managers, April and Blair, make sure our team has everything we need to be successful. They are encouraging and dive in to help when needed,” she adds.
A dog lover, Mary Catherine is hopeful to have one of her own in the near future. For now, she enjoys giving as much of her quality time as possible to her three nephews. The second of four children, Mary Catherine is thankful that her older sister lives close, which allows her the ability to visit often. As she enjoys the benefits of being a Nashvillian, Mary Catherine is also a music lover, and she enjoys taking in the many local concerts when possible. “I love the size and culture of Nashville. Everyone seems to be connected somehow,” says Mary Catherine. You can also find her cheering on the Tennessee Vols throughout the year and taking a fun trip whenever possible.
