Microsoft has loads of exciting features hitting this month in the April 2022 release of Dynamics 365 Business Central. A few of the more popular updates are listed below. Microsoft delivers updates based on the most popular requests for improvement. They are investing in a strong reporting story, including better integrations with Excel. Also improved is the support for collaborative business processes in Teams so you can bring Business Central pages into a Teams channel.
- New capabilities have been added for financial reporting with the out of the box account schedules. You can now control how the number zero is printed (0, blank or a dash line). You can use account categories as totaling filters for columns. Several other nice to have features are available.
- You can now use Excel to create and edit layouts for reports.
- Context-aware links in the Help pane to help flatten the learning curve for new users.
- New guided tour to help users find settings and personalization tools.
- The Share Menu in the web client now includes a Copy link action that copies the current page link to the clipboard. Several other copy links have been added as well.
- This release includes minor visual updates such as a refreshed loading screen and updated iconography for specific system actions.
- Navigation updates:
- When you navigate to related entities using the Peek feature for entities where the card or document page is not present, the Peek feature offers a new Open full list option so that you can go to the relevant list.
- When a FastTab expands, the page scrolls up so the next FastTab caption is visible.
- Data Entry Updates:
- Improved behavior of lookups on fields with table relations, such as the Description field on sales documents. The new behavior creates a distinction between fields that are simply a lookup to a related table and fields that allow free text with the assistance of a dropdown menu to choose from a predefined value.
- When a message dialog interrupts typing into the next field, the characters you entered are no longer discarded.
- The web client preserves a few empty lines at the end of an editable list so that filling out data vertically across rows never runs out of space.
- Deeper and expanded integration with Power Automate flow and improvements to the Power Apps connector.
- System administrators can define default permission set assignments when users sign up.
- User email policies can be set to control who can read email sent from Business Central.
- 20 new countries have been added to bring the availability of Business Central to 70 counties now.
- Tighter integration with Microsoft Teams allowing users to view and act on Business Central data from within Teams.
- The Outlook add-in now offers the option to copy email attachments to the record displayed in the add-in field.
- Report files may now be shared to OneDrive for Business.
- A single tile is now used to access both production and sandbox environments of Business Central.
- An auto-accept of intercompany transactions is now available to streamline accounting efficiently around interco transactions.
- Blocking the deletion of any GL accounts is available to prevent accidental deletions of accounts.
- The Payment Reconciliation journal has been improved with the following capabilities:
- View fields for debits and credits on the footer of journals
- Preview before posting option
- The sell-to and bill-to customers can be different for jobs.
- The Bank Account Statement report on the posted bank reconciliations has been modified so it now shows a more detailed snapshot of the bank information as of the time when the bank reconciliation was posted. New fields, G/L Balance, Outstanding Payments, and Checks, make it easier to validate and audit.
- Change default bank account on sales and service documents.
- Check documents and journal in while you work.
- Consolidate customer and vendor balances.
- Fixed Quantity in product bills of materials.
- Log email using a shared mailbox.
- More control over deferrals posting.
- Create bank deposits automatically.
- Shopify Connector is now available.
- Release and reopen multiple documents.
- Sync sales orders both ways in Business Central and CE (CRM) Sales.
